TOM MCCARTHY, B.A. (University College Cork), MBA (University College Cork)

Tom McCarthy holds a BA in Economics and an MBA from University College Cork.  He is Managing Director of McCarthy Developments (cork) Ltd.

McCarthy Developments (cork) Ltd. is a privately owned, expanding property development company that is opportunity-led.

The Company’s main focus is on the residential, commercial and leisure sectors within excess of €500 Million in projects currently at either the design, planning or construction stage.

Current projects include:

  • A 660 mixed-unit residential development at Jacobs Island in Cork including commercial and leisure elements. 
  • A 174 unit waterside apartment development at Harty’s Quay, Rochestown, Cork.  This recently completed development has set the standard in Cork for quality apartment living in terms of design, location, capital appreciation and exclusivity.
  • A 90 unit development of Luxury Holiday Homes at Sheen Falls in Kenmare in a Country Club setting linked to the world renowned 5 star Sheen Falls Lodge.
  • The Company is strategically placed within the Docklands area of Cork and is actively involved in driving the development of the Docklands with the Local Authority and fellow developers.
  • The Company has substantial other sites in the pipeline and is committed to ensuring the development of Cork in particular for the benefit of all of its residential and commercial occupants.
  • The group also holds a number of investment properties in the commercial, leisure and licensed sectors.

Tom is the Past President of the MBA Association of Ireland.  He established the Cork Chapter of the Association in 1996 and was elected President of the MBA Association in 2002.  He has organised and initiated a number of “Leadership” conferences held in Cork in an effort to promote the MBA Association of Ireland and his own city of Cork including Professor Michael E. Porter, Dr. H. Kissinger and Mr. Rudy Guiliani, former Lord Mayor of New York

Tom is married with one son and one daughter, and he is the third generation of the family to enter the property business.  He is a keen golfer and also takes an active interest in rugby having previously played for both Dolphin and University College Cork.
