Tsinghua Executive Education Course
Harvard Graduate School of Design (2006, 2007 and 2008)

Each year the Institute leads an Advanced Leadership Program for senior Chinese officials on behalf of the Office of Executive Education at the Harvard Graduate School of Design. In 2006, the program was attended by 29 participants selected by Tsinghua University. The topics presented were selected to illustrate emerging trends in urban planning in the Western World, including:

  • Dynamics of urban growth and urban planning in market economies
  • Meeting the challenge of economic growth, environmental quality and social equity
  • The redevelopment of obsolete areas through public/private initiatives;
  • Environmental regulations and the development process;
  • Planning for environmentally challenged sites;
  • Recycling obsolete buildings;
  • Urban design and landscape design principles;
  • A series of lectures on real estate development principles.

François Vigier, Mona Serageldin, John Driscoll and Erick Guerra represented the Institute in the program. Participating Harvard faculty members included Lee Cott, Niall Kirkwood, Alex Krieger, John Macomber, Martha O’Mara, Rick Peiser, Bing Wang and Martin Zogran.
