RICARDO PUERTA, Ph.D (Cornell)

Ricardo Puerta, Ph.D. is a sociologist with more than 30 years of experience in development projects in Latin America. A graduate of Cornell University with a Ph.D. degree in Development Sociology, he has served as Director Pan-American Agricultural School's (Zamorano´s) Rural Development Program, and as Assistant Director for the Latin American Program at Private Agencies Collaborating Together (PACT) in New York, a federation of international NGOs. As Coordinator for the Regional Reserarch and Workshop Project at Social Investment and Emergency Fund (FISE/Nicaragua), Dr. Puerta implemented a two-year review of experiences project, covering 12 social investment funds operating in 10 different countries. He served a Trainer for the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB) and the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (BCIE in Spanish) in project design using the Logframe Method and recently, under an USAID/Honduras contract, served as Principal Consultant to the National Commissioner for Human Rights Office, in Honduras, on the Social Auditing Program.

Mr. Puerta is now an Advisor in Rapid Assessment on field projects that are assisted by the Building Architectural and Design Center (CEDAC in Spanish), a Honduran University specializing in housing and human settlements as part of its extension activities. He is also the Founder and Adviser of the Honduran Remittance Group, a voluntary think tank promoting the use of remittances to reduce poverty in Honduras. At the present time he is teaching the Course on Development Management at the Latin American Postgraduate Program of Social Work at the National University of Honduras, and the Logical Framework Matrix and Method Course at the Catholic University of Honduras.
